UNIDO Joint Project Preparation (JPPF) Capacity Building Awareness Workshop
The capacity building activities deployed for the Bank Joint Project Preparation Facility (JPPF)” Partners, is designed to assist in investment project preparation and appraisals and (pre-) feasibility assessments. Such capacity building will allow for a better understanding of how to assess bankable projects taking into consideration climate and energy parameters. UNIDO will enhance the capacity development of Afreximbank and the partners relying on its existing tools and instruments, specifically related to UNIDO’s Investment Project Preparation and Appraisal (IPPA) methodology and, optionally, the Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting (COMFAR).
The project Capacity Building is designed to deliver a capacity-building programme in project preparation skills in the Joint Project Preparation Facility (JPPF) Partners across Africa with customized training modules to meet the individual country and regional peculiarities. The project will provide upstream technical and financial solutions to the public and private sectors in the JPPF Partner’s country to enable them to progress projects from concept stage to bankability and reduce drop-off rates between the project idea stage and the pre-feasibility study stage as well as between the feasibility study stage and the project’s intended financial close.
The CB Program should be implemented in phases as outlined below:
Phase 1 -Stage A: preparation of a “boilerplate template” or pilot program based on engagements with one selected JPPF Partner. Commencing with one JPPF Partner will allow the Bank and UNIDO to focus on the development of the pilot program. The approach has merit as it enables the Bank and UNIDO to prudently develop a standardized template and inculcate any key learnings before rolling out the program to other JPPF Partners.
Phase 1 -Stage B: After a successful implementation of Stage A, the pilot program will be prudently scaled up to encompass four additional selected JPPF Partners in 2024. In doing so, the Bank and UNIDO will be able to optimize the implementation of the program from a budgetary, timeline, and quality of outcome perspective. This is owing to the fact that the standardized template prepared in Phase 1 Stage A will need to be customized to meet the requirements of each JPPF Partner specifically around the training needs and corporate governance and subsequently make recommendations thereof.
Phase 2: this phase will be the roll out of the CB Program to new JPPF Partners.
The proposed Joint Project Preparation (“JPPF”) Capacity Building Awareness Workshop which comes after the completion of the initial Phase 1- Stage A (pilot phase) of the capacity building conducted with EDF, aims to present and build awareness of the JPPF Capacity Building program and the commencement of its roll out to other JPPF Partners which will be onboarded for Phase 1-Stage B and Phase 2. The JPPF Capacity Building Awareness Workshop will be complemented by a PRPR IPPA Training Program targeting the products team with the Bank.
