Canex : Practice To Trade: Music

The Music course equips artists, producers, songwriters, and music industry practitioners with the business knowledge to protect, administer, monetize, and scale their intellectual property assets. The course draws primarily from South African and emerging African music markets, navigating local collection landscapes like SAMRO, CAPASSO, and SAMPRA alongside the realities of global streaming and international distribution, as its primary frames of reference. These are not supplementary case studies; they are the ground the curriculum is built from.
The course follows the Jua–Jenga–Simama arc across its modules and lessons, delivered by Mpho Pholo. A music industry professional with deep expertise in African music markets, rights, and the commercial landscape, Mpho has navigated the value chain as a producer, composer, and music director—spanning major label administration deals with Sony, international indie projects, film scoring, and award-winning commercial campaigns. His foundational principles—that visibility without infrastructure is fragile, that understanding ownership must always come before chasing visibility, and that rigorous administrative discipline is what turns a song into a compounding financial asset—run through every lesson in this course.
