Canex : Practice To Trade: Film

The Film course equips directors, producers, screenwriters, and production practitioners with the business knowledge to protect, finance, distribute, and scale their creative work. The course draws equally from African and Caribbean film industries, Nollywood, South African cinema, East African documentary, Jamaican and Trinidadian film, and the wider Caribbean screen industry, as its primary frames of reference. These are not supplementary case studies; they are the ground the curriculum is built from.
The course follows the Jua–Jenga–Simama arc across six modules and 24 lessons, delivered by Andrew Wessels. Andrew entered the industry as a runner in 1995, built expertise across music television, live events, documentary, and feature film, and has operated as both a creative and a producer across multiple formats and budgets. His foundational principles, that communication and preparation are what make a production work, that alignment is always the goal, and that constraints are drivers of creative problem-solving rather than limitations, run through every lesson in this course.
